Sunday October 10 sees expert porridge makers from far and wide gather in the village of Carrbridge for the annual Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship.

The iconic date 10.10.10 also marks World Porridge Day - an international celebration of Scotland's traditional national dish with ambassadors around the world invited to organise their own porridge / oatmeal fund raising events in support of the charity, Mary's Meals.

The Scottish-based charity daily feeds more than 400,000 of the poorest and most neediest children in the world.

In the countdown to this year's World Porridge Making Championship and to mark the wider celebration of Scotland's reputation as the Land of Food and Drink, we have created a special programme of events to showcase just a taste of what the Cairngorms has to offer.

Some of these events have an oatmeal theme to help raise funds for Mary's Meals.

In addition to their usual menu, the Mountain Cafe will be serving a selection of oatmeal cookies, cakes and flapjacks to help raise money for the charity, Mary's Meals. Open all day.

THE UK'S HIGHEST PORRIDGE BREAKFAST
10.30am - 12 noon. The Ptarmigan Restaurant Cairngorm Mountain.
Enjoy a hearty bowl of porridge at the UK's highest restaurant in return for a donation to the charity, Mary's Meals.

WORLD PORRIDGE MAKING CHAMPIONSHIP

Expert porridge makers gather in the village of Carrbridge to battle it out for the world porridge making title and prestigious Golden Spurtle trophy.

The contest, sponsored by oatmeal producers, Hamlyns of Scotland gets off to a flying start with a pipe band parade of competitors and judges and the traditional "Toast to the Porridge." Other highlights of the day see craft and produce stalls including a showcase of local produce, live music, foodie art workshops and the Carrbridge Challenge 3km & 5km Forest Run and minis fun run.
